Eastern Iowa MAP Consortium
Background, Purpose & Members

Background:

In 1999 – 2001, eight schools in Eastern Iowa joined together as the Eastern Iowa School Improvement Consortium.  As one of the projects funded by a Goals 2000 grant, five schools embarked on the use of NWEA MAP assessments.   When the grant ended, these five districts continued to meet as the Eastern Iowa MAP Consortium.  The five original districts included North-Linn, College Community, West Branch, Highland, and Tipton

Purpose:

The MAP Consortium has grown and continues to meet as an informal association of schools that utilize NWEA assessments.  The primary purpose of the Consortium is to pool resources to provide quality professional development to member schools in the administration and use of MAP assessments.  Schools also engage in collaboration to meet state/federal requirements for assessment and accountability using MAP data.   Other projects have involved developing an ITAP process using MAP tests, and potentially, developing Consortium norms for various tests.

The Eastern Iowa MAP Consortium has several NWEA certified trainers that provide various levels of professional development.  Some of these trainers have traveled nation-wide for NWEA to provide workshops and staff development.  These trainers also provide on-site follow up training for teachers in the Consortium to utilize and implement MAP data and tools.  This on-site training, called “MAP Academy” is available for re-certification/graduate credit.

The next training cycle that is currently in development is called “3-D Instruction.”  The 3-Ds stand for “Data-Driven, Differentiated Instruction.”  This 15+ hour program helps teachers to utilize MAP assessment data, along with an aligned core curriculum to provide quality differentiated instruction in the classroom to meet the needs of all students.  This program will be piloted in the fall of 2006.

Current Members:

Currently there are 22 school districts that are associated with the Eastern Iowa MAP Consortium:
