Teaching Outdoor Skills: Basic Fishing and Archery
Dates: June 14 and 15, 2010
Cost: Materials and 1 license renewal credit for $55 or 1 graduate credit from Drake University for $155. Training costs subsidized b the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Registration Deadline: June 7, 2010
Hands on sessions will acquaint participants with methodologies used to teach archery and fishing. Participants will receive a basic archery instructor packet and the Fish Iowa! basic spincasting module.
Lodging and meals will be provided at the Springbook Conservation Center for June 14, 2010. A limited number of stipends of $150 are available to teachers to help defray expenses of attending the course. To be eligible for the stipend the participant must develop an integrated unit lesson plan using the Fish Iowa! materials that meets the criteria to receive an “A” in the course.
We've Got to MOVE IT, MOVE IT!: Engaging Young Children in Motor and Play Activities
This course is designed to assist preschool, early childhood special education and physical education personnel to plan and execute developmentally appropriate motor and play activities for children aged 3-5. Participants will deepen their understanding of the Iowa Early Learning standards & Benchmarks related to physical well-being and motor development. appropiate practices in movement programs for yound children ages 3-5 (as developed by the Council on Physical Education for Children) will be modeled thorughout the course. Educators will be actively engaged in designing and implementing lesson plans related to motor and play skill development. Young children learn through active engagement with the environment.

Fees: Registration is not complete until all fees are paid in full two weeks in advance of the first class. Total for renewal credit = $25 paid in full at the time of registering. Total for Morningside credit = $75 paid in full at the time of registering. Total for Drake credit = $100 paid in full at the time of registering.

Teaching Students with Visual Impairments in Physical Education
What: Tw- day workshop to provide information, adaptations and strategies for teaching students with visual impairments in the PE classroom
When: August 2-3, 2010 (Registrations due by Friday, July 16)
Where: Heartland AEA 11 office, Ames
Time: 8:30 a.m -4:30 p.m.
Who: PE teachers who will have a student with visual impairments or other interested individuals
Credit: 1 hour of graduate credit through UNI. If you are attending this workshop for graduate credit, you must attend both days to acquire enough contact hours for credit.
