Autism
Members of Grant Wood AEA’s Autism Core Team provide a variety of services. These services include: agency inservices, on-site inservices, team consultation, student observation, attend IEP meetings, functional analyses, educating peers about autism, and a variety of other services to help support individuals in the autism spectrum and the staff working with them.

Braille Too
Effective April 2009, the Braille Too Instructional Program has been discontinued and is no longer available.
Brain Injury Resource Team
A multi-disciplinary team will provide consultation and information to other AEA staff and local school teams who are working with students with traumatic brain injuries (head injuries).

Career Connections provides students with disabilities the extra training and support needed to become independent and successful in community jobs.

Consultant Services
Consultants with expertise in writing and implementing IEP's, modeling classroom strategies, teaching life skills and academic content for diverse learners and students with special needs, developing accommodations, adapted physical education, transition planning, managing student behaviors, facilitating planning, and knowing special education law are members of regional teams.
Early Childhood Special Education Services
Birth through Age 5
ECSE services are for children birth through age 5 and include evaluation and intervention services.
Hearing Services
Identification through testing, medical referrals and educational planning for students who are deaf or have hearing impairments. Services, recommendations and materials are provided by trained audiometrists, audiologists, and itinerant hearing teachers.

Homebound-Hospital Instruction

Infants and toddlers are served in their natural environments. Services are focused on meeting the demands of the educational or natural environment and may occur at many levels. Therapists work closely with teachers, paraeducators, families, and caretakers to provide the maximum success for all students, ages birth through 21 years old.

Off-Site Programs
Grant Wood AEA provides instructional programs for adolescents living in juvenile homes, shelters or special behavioral centers throughout Area 10.
Parent-Educator Partnership (PEP)
The Grant Wood AEA Parent-Educator Partnership (PEP) links families and educators for better understanding and communication. As part of a statewide Parent-Educator network, the program provides a lending library of printed information, books and videos; a newsletter; workshops and consultation on communication and family issues; a speakers' bureau; and ongoing networking with support groups and parent-teacher organizations.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Agency staff can provide training in the use of school-wide positive behavioral supports for prevention of behavioral issues and to enhance the learning environment.

Section 504
This site is designed to serve as a resource for 504 coordinators, administrators, school nurses, AEA staff and parents of students in Area 10.

School Psychological Services
School psychologists provide consultation and assessment for students who have school-related learning, emotional, social, and behavioral problems. The emphasis is on intervention and remediation through the team approach.

School Social Work
School social workers provide evaluation, counseling and consultation to students, parents and families to help solve social, emotional and behavioral problems that interfere with a student's education and development.
Speech Services
Screening, evaluation, consultation and therapy for educationally significant problems that children have with language, voice, articulation, and stuttering.
Transition Support Services
The Transition Support Services are for students, parents, teachers and school districts as they plan for students' transitions for living, learning and working. Planning will include movement from home to school, school to school, and to their post-school employment, education and living settings.

Transition Support Services
VITAL Program
Held at Kirkwood Community College, the VITAL Program provides extended vocational training for students who require additional support beyond their high school program in order to meet the transition goals of their IEP. Support may include personal tutoring and counseling, test reading, tape-recorded textbooks, notetakers and job placement services.
