iPad Update 11/11/11
by Stacy Behmer, Coordinator of Digital Learning
Our App of the Week is Puppet Pals HD. Julie King, a School Social Worker, wrote a great review of this highly motivating animation app, so I would encourage you to check it out and see why she likes it so much. We have included a video with it that gives a brief overview of how to use it. Read Julie’s review of Puppet Pals HD here and email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to submit your own review for App of the Week.
In other news, our GWAEA iPad site has had a minor makeover. It is now much easier to read on an iPad screen. We have also changed the password for the email@example.com iTunes account. Make sure you visit the GWAEA iPad User Group to find out what it has changed to. There has been some great discussions and feedback on the iPad User Group so if you haven’t yet signed up, now is the time to do so. It is a great resource for all GWAEA staff.
To download your own apps you need to create your own Apple IDs, even if they are free. If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can set up your own free account without adding a credit card. The firstname.lastname@example.org account is ONLY to be used for updating existing apps, and SHOULD NOT be used for downloading additional apps. DO NOT put GIFT CARDS or PERSONAL CREDIT CARDS in the email@example.com account. This will give everyone in the agency access to your funds. Please remember these are for professional use!
Also, if you are using Facetime, please don’t use firstname.lastname@example.org as your Apple ID. Several people have done this just to try out the feature, but it means that if you try to Facetime someone at that email address, you could end up calling a whole bunch of people you did not want to contact. Think about what it would be like if we all had the same phone number. This is what Facetime is like if we all use email@example.com! :) So, to limit the confusion, please use your own Apple ID or create one if you don’t have one.
Thanks to everyone who has shared their stories on how they have used their iPads so far. We love to hear feedback on how you are using them or would like to use them. Remember to email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions, or check our iPad calendar for help desk times.
As a reminder for staff who travel on Agency or personal business, please remember precautions you can take to prevent bed bug problems when you use hotel accommodations.
Hotels make conscientious efforts and work hard to provide clean and safe facilities, however bed bugs are not caused by dirty living conditions and anyone or any facility can get bed bugs.
Employees are encouraged to use appropriate preventive and protective measures to enjoy safe and pleasant travel. It’s important to be aware there is no Agency-provided insurance that extends to an employee’s personal property and an employee’s personal insurance would be the coverage that applies for bed bug situations.
Last Fall 2010, the Agency disseminated bed bug information provided by the Healthy Homes Branch of Linn County, and those links are provided again for your reference below. For additional information, contact Linn County Public Health, 319-892-6000.
