Parenting after Separation/Divorce
|
This class is for parents who are divorced, separated or never married. The focus of this program is to support parents in their efforts to provide a nurturing home environment following a period of family change.
Topics of Discussion:
- Myths and realities of separation and divorce from an adult’s perspective as compared to that of a child
- How to talk to the children about family issues
- Helping children deal with their feelings of grief and loss
- Tips to help your child move smoothly between two households; will also discuss the effects of parent absence on children
- Creating and maintaining strong relationships with your child’s “other parents”
- Techniques for building strong family relationships in your own home
- Tips and strategies to parent effectively in the single parent household
The series is primarily intended for families with children under 6 years of age. However, consideration will be given to parents with older children, as space permits.
