Parenting in Step Families

This class is for parents who are co-habiting, thinking of remarriage, or who are parents in a step family household. The focus of this program is to support parents in their efforts to provide a nurturing home environment following a period of family change.
Topics of Discussion:
- Myths and realities of step family life from an adult’s perspective as compared to that of a child
- How to talk to the children about family issues
- How to understand children and help them deal with their feelings
- Navigating the emotional journey of step family formation
- Keeping your couple relationship strong
- Parenting children in the step family
- Techniques for building strong family relationships in your own home
- Working effectively across households
The series is primarily intended for families with children under 6 years of age. However, consideration will be given to parents with older children, as space permits.
