Parenting in Step Families

This class is for parents who are co-habiting, thinking of remarriage, or who are parents in a step family household.  The focus of this program is to support parents in their efforts to provide a nurturing home environment following a period of family change.

Topics of Discussion:

  • Myths and realities of step family life from an adult’s perspective as compared to that of a child
  • How to talk to the children about family issues
  • How to understand children and help them deal with their feelings
  • Navigating the emotional journey of step family formation
  • Keeping your couple relationship strong
  • Parenting children in the step family
  • Techniques for building strong family relationships in your own home
  • Working effectively across households

The series is primarily intended for families with children under 6 years of age.  However, consideration will be given to parents with older children, as space permits.
