The Regional Educational Labs provide a wide range of educational services. Each has a specialty area.
The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) provides an annotated bibliography of Science Assessment research: Bibliography of Assessment Alternatives -- Science. This is in downloadable format in Acrobat Reader. The NWREL Assessment Resource Library also contains annotated bibliographies for Portfolio, Math, Achievement as well as other subjects and topics.
The WestEd Regional Lab leads the Assessment Core Work Team (ACWT), the working group in assessment for the cross-laboratory network group for the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) network. The ACWT is dedicated to improving student learning on a national scale by providing access to resources, technical assistance, and professional development in the area of classroom assessment. The Promising Practices in Assessment Database (PPAD) database contains a variety of high quality, assessment-focused materials developed by the ten regional educational laboratories (RELs). The database, affectionately called PPAD, serves as a tool for inventorying and disseminating best practices in assessment. REL staff inventoried the assessment-related materials at his or her own lab and selected the best practices for inclusion in the PPAD.
The Appalachian Educational Lab (AEL) focuses on under-served students and rural education. Within their Math/Science Consortium AEL has a new database resource for math and science educators, called TE-MAT. This searchable collection of reviews is the heart of the database, intended to help K-12 mathematics and science professional development providers more readily select materials appropriate for their program goals. Classroom teachers will also find excellent and current resources for extending their classroom knowledge base. Reviews may be searched by Descriptor Search or Keyword Search.
