This fast-paced, example-laden presentation will address the array of challenges that every teacher of grades 6-12 mathematics faces and how best to address these challenges in the world of Common Standards, higher expectations and changing social and economic demands. We’ll focus most on instructional shifts that are affirmed by research and the wisdom of practice and on the collaboration structures that are essential aspects of every middle and high school mathematics department.

Steve Leinwand is a Principal Research Analyst at AIR and has over 35 years of leadership positions in mathematics education. He currently serves as mathematics expert on a wide range of AIR projects that turn around schools, improve adult education, evaluate programs, develop assessments and provide technical assistance.
