What does it really mean to be fluent with basic facts, and how is this idea reflected in the Iowa Core? Come explore how we can use strategies, games, and activities in meaningful ways to develop a trajectory for helping all students become fluent with basic facts, and consider ways to authentically assess fact fluency.

Presenter: Gina Kling
Gina Kling teaches elementary mathematics content and methods courses at Western Michigan University, and is also an elementary mathematics coach and curriculum developer for Everyday Mathematics 4. For nearly a decade, Gina has focused her research on helping children learn their basic facts in meaningful ways, work that she often shares through professional development with practicing teachers. She has authored numerous articles on teaching basic math facts and remains active in the elementary classroom, engaging children in developing fluency with their basic facts.
