Parents/guardians of children, ages 3-21, who uses Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) to support their communication & language learning AND
who currently has an identified individual AAC system/device for their use.
Each family is asked to bring one favorite book
or magazine their child enjoys along with their
child’s AAC system (if possible).
This fast-paced and informative night is intended for parents/guardians of children who are current “learners and/or users of AAC.” Examples of AAC systems would include, but are not limited to:
- Core Vocabulary boards
- PODD communication books
- iPads with AAC apps or
- Other dedicated AAC communication devices.
With the support of the Grant Wood AEA AAC Resource team and other speech-language pathologists from the agency, family members will be introduced to key “SMART” communication partner strategies
to support their own interactions with their child while incorporating the use of the child’s AAC system.
Opportunities to practice these communication partner strategies will also be provided as part of a shared
