Today’s educators need to cover all the BASES in developing and applying support systems for students. The Grant Wood AEA BASES Conference will highlight ways to integrate Behavior, Academic and Social and Emotional Support systems for students by presenting best practices and research on student behavior and social emotional support systems.

This event will allow you to engage with leading experts to develop a system of positive behavior and social/emotional/behavioral supports to help all students develop social, emotional and academic skills.

Day 2 - Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human service workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (ages 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people (ages 12-18).

Day 2 - Participants will work with Shannon Suldo, author of “Promoting Student Happiness - Positive Psychology Interventions in Schools” to learn specific strategies at the Tier 1 level for promoting all children’s happiness through school wide and class wide strategies that target improvements in the factors correlated with children’s subjective well-being, including positive teacher-student relationships evident in schools with a healthy climate, as well as students’ personal levels of gratitude, optimism and use of character strengths. Programs for promoting the well-being of students with low happiness will be referenced.
