This course will focus on students with significant disabilities with complex communication needs (AAC and non-AAC users) who require specially designed literacy instructional routines. Participants will be introduced to the critical connection between literacy and language learning using core vocabulary for these emergent literacy learners. Instructional practices based on the work of Dr. Karen Erickson and Dr. David Koppenhaver will include components of early emergent literacy instruction and a variety of classroom supports will be the focus of this course.
