2022 Speakers

Having Hard Conversations: Jennifer Abrams

As administrators, coaches or colleagues, we often come up against situations where difficult topics must be addressed. What do we know about the best strategies for those moments? What questions should we be asking ourselves before we speak? And what environments are best for when we do speak? Based on Jennifer’s book “Having Hard Conversations” and her work with conflict and interpersonal communication, this session will provide participants with action plans and scripting tools for having those necessary hard conversations.

Strengthening Collaboration for Improved... Jenni Donohoo

When individuals in the education system collaborate, great things happen. Collaboration is productive and satisfying when it results in the generation of new knowledge, shared understandings and impact. Since collaboration is an important element for realizing improvement in student outcomes, we will explore structures for engaging in meaningful and productive collaboration. During this session, participants consider common challenges associated with leading professional learning (identify pitfalls of collaboration and enemies of learning) and determine ways to overcome challenges. Creating a Culture of Achievement & Growth... Dominique Smith

The Opportunity: Creating a Culture of Achievement and Growth Mindset Most school improvement efforts focus on academic goals. But sometimes what can make or break your learning community are the intangibles — the relationships and connections that make up its culture. Authors of the text Fisher, Frey and Pumpian believe that no school improvement effort will be effective unless school culture is addressed. They identify six pillars that are critical to building a culture of achievement and embracing a growth mindset.

Dominique will describe how these pillars support good teaching and learning. Effective adult communication and the growth mindset in the classroom will support a culture of achievement in the classroom.
