Grant Wood AEA is pleased to offer the Young Writers’ Conference for 4th and 5th grade students. Accompanied by a teacher from their school, students will attend a guest presentation, two workshop sessions, and a sharing session where students will share samples of their own writing.

2021 GUEST PRESENTER: Kenneth Oppel

Kenneth Oppel is an award-winning author from Canada. Kenneth was first published in 1985. Since then he has published the Silverwing trilogy, which sold over a million copies around the world, and Airborn, winner of the 2004 Governor General’s Award for children’s literature, and the Michael L. Printz Honor Book award from the American Library Association. Impressively his book Half Brother won both the Canadian Library Association’s Book of the Year for Children Award as well as their Young Adult Book Award — the first time in the awards’ history the same title has won both honors.
Kenneth’s latest award-winning books include, The Nest and Inkling. Inkling is a 2021 Iowa Children’s Choice Award nominee. Learn more about Kenneth Oppel.
